Sometimes you might get a bit bored at work. You watch the clock and cannot wait till it is 5:00. Friday is the best day of the week and Monday is the worst. Or maybe you are bit burnt out and you need a vacation. Well it is possible that all you need is to get away. But, what if you really are bored? What do you do to get out of your rut?
Staying motivated in your job is a bit like staying happy in a marriage. It takes work (no pun intended) to stay fulfilled. In this case the work you should do is to always be learning. It's hard to be bored if you are always taking classes, seminars, or listening to tapes and trying out new things. Things that you learn from. Focus on being better on your job each day and don't just go through the motions. Try improving 1% per day and you will see big improvements over time.
You might have learned your job so well that you can do it with your eyes closed. Perhaps now is the time to ask for new responsibilities. Talk to your boss and ask if there is any additional ways to contribute to your company. Tell him or her that you feel ready to take on new challenges. Doing new tasks will keep your job fresh and interesting.
It may seem to you that you have outgrown some of your jobs. As you take on more and more responsibilities and are more valuable to the company you could find that your position changes and you are advancing and changing what your do. Advancing your position and perhaps earning more money is a sure way to beat boredom.
