OK!! You are asking all the right questions. You even think you might have answers. But, oh my g-d!! How are you going to do this? It is like starting over. You don't know if you even have the 5 - 10 years, or even the energy the learning curve requires. Now, take a deep breath, blow it out and relax. This is doable! You can start over. The good news is you already are further along in life so you don't have to start at the very beginning to switch careers. Life experience counts.
I once worked with a woman who was just starting out in her career. She was in her late 30'S and had stayed home to raise her children. Unfortunately her husband left her and stopped working. So not only was she a single parent, but she had to first start earning money. She ended up being hired by a company where she started almost at the bottom. Almost, but, not quite. However, with her experience running the PTA and raising children she was able to learn quickly and was promoted fast. After about 5 years she was offered a job as an executive at another company at triple her salary. Not bad for a woman who switched gears later in life.
