In a year where business is very tough I got a raise. Many people saw their salary cut. Certainly most did not get an increase. So how did I do it? I increased my value to my company. I made a deal that would bring in more profit to the bottom line of my company. What can you do that brings more value? How can you be more productive in your position? You do not need to be a salesperson to bring more value. I work with a production person who has used his contacts to identify new factories and new products for the company. I also work with an accountant who has sought to improve our cost cutting measures. If you can measure the direct results of what you do than you can justify a raise. But, make sure that it is added value and not what is expected of you. You already get paid for what is expected of you. In this day and age people do not get a raise just because they are with a company a certain amount of time. Nowadays you need to justify your raise. So spend your time thinking of ways to add additional value and a raise will come your way.
