I had a hard time believing that someone would deliberately try to make another worker look bad so that they would get ahead. To me that kind of underhandedness was so bad that I thought it just happened in movies. Talk about being naive. I definitely was until it happened to me. There was a man I worked with recently for about 3 years who tried to get me fired. It seems he wanted my job and since I already had it he had to get rid of me. He undertook a campaign of badmouthing me to my CEO and anyone else who would listen. He was already successful getting rid of someone else who worked with us. So I guess he figured it would work again. But here is the thing. He didn’t focus on the right stuff and I did. I continually tried to do an excellent job. Not a good one, but the best I could do. He on the other hand was very busy trying to get away with whatever he could. Alienating his accounts left and right. I did not bad mouth him to my boss and I never spoke to this man. I also wouldn’t do any projects with him This way I stayed far away. The final outcome was this coworker was fired and I have been given additional responsibilities. So basically that is what you do to combat a sabotaging coworker. Do not engage in the bad behavior and continue to do the best job you can. As they say the cream always rises to the top.
