Yesterday I spoke about a coworker who wanted a raise but yet her boss was unhappy with her work. Well her results started to improve and her boss was beginning to see that she was in fact a good at what she was doing. He was even thinking of giving her more responsibility. He wanted her to fly to see accounts and she went on one trip which was very successful
Since he wanted to see her visit more accounts, I offered to take her on a trip I was planning and he thought it was a great idea. Here is the unfortunate part. She said no to the trip. She had a root canal planned and was seeing a play with her mother for her mothers birthday. Rather than even thinking about moving her plans around she just said no. She didn’t even try to make it work. When I told her boss she couldn’t go he expressed his dismay. Needless to say this is not how to get a raise. The root canal was not an emergency, she wasn’t in pain and I am sure her mother would have understood. Or perhaps she could have rescheduled one and not the other. Her rigidness may cost her a promotion and the raise.
What is the lesson here? You must go the extra mile. If this is what your supervisor wants you don’t have to agree. Just do it, after all they pay your salary.
