I know a man who is always a victim. Everything happens to him. Nothing is his fault. He blames everyone and everything for the problems in his life. If he gets a ticket for speeding, it was the cops fault. If he lost a job, he blamed it on the firm. The bottom line for him is his life is a mess, he is unhappy, has no money, and is constantly having problems with motor vehicles. Currently he is without a drivers license and is stuck in his apartment (which he is behind on the rent and may be evicted) because he cannot get around. What a sad state his life is in. If he started to take responsibilty for everything that happened to him, he would then realize that he is in charge and can really make changes.
Once you take responsibility for everything that happens to you, you also can make changes in your life. For example: Let's say you are overweight. You can blame it on your metabolism (which might be the case). You might than say I eat well why is it I can't lose weight and my friend who eats whatever she wants stays slim. Not fair! So what. Turn this around and say I am responsible for my weight. So what if my metabolism is slow. What can I do to turn this around? I can exercise to increase my metabolism, I can look at my diet (because sure as anything there is something in your diet that must be fixed) and I can lose weight. By taking responsibility for your weight you can than make a difference.
